The Golden Rules of Marketing

For you to achieve success in business, you must know the golden rules of marketing. Once you master them, you are likely to increase your success dramatically. They are:

1. Know what you want

Always keep your eyes on the ball. Before you try out something new, be clear on what you want. For example, if you are setting up a new ad, ask yourself whether your ad is meant to create awareness of you product, or whether it is meant to respond to your competitor’s move.Another thing: What is your target market? If you fail to focus on what you are looking for, you will not know when you get it –or when you don’t. On the other hand, if you know what you want, it is easy to know where you are going wrong and what you can do to get better results.

2. Test and Measure the output of your marketing activities

Being successful in business is not rocket science; anyone can do it. Unfortunately, for many, it looks like it is. Before you spend your whole fortune on gambling with an idea, test it on a small scale. Whether it is a new ad, an email marketing campaign, a revised landing page, or a new telemarketing script, see how a sample of the market will receive it before you pour in more resources. Once you try out you new idea, measure the response and see whether it is what you are looking for. Ask yourself questions such as:

What was the excess of revenue over expenditure?

Was there an increase in internet traffic?

Did the conversion rates change? If your idea was successful in a small scale, it will definitely be successful in a large scale. If it was a flop, it will be a flop in a large scale too.

3. Remember the Benefits

You probably got into business to make money. Right? Well, no matter how obvious it may seem to you, it should not be that obvious to your potential customers.

Your potential customer wants do deal with someone who is eager to help him sort out his problems and improve his life. Constantly remind yourself that the business is not about you; it is all about the benefits that the buyer will get in doing business with you.

Marketing is not the place for you to boast of the number of years that you have spent researching on your new product. Instead, it is where you show that you are the best person to solve the buyer’s problems and that you are eager to do it. Listing the benefits is perhaps one of the greatest tools in marketing as your potential buyer is always asking himself:“So, what is in for me?”
